My background sits at an unusual intersection: business operations and supply chain, entrepreneurship and leadership, and advanced information technology. That combination is the whole point — I can sit with an owner and map how the business really works, then go build the software that fixes it. Most people do one or the other.

Why it matters to you
Most technology projects fail at the seams — the developer doesn't understand the operation, or the consultant can't build what they recommended. Holding all three sides means fewer seams.
Off the clock
My biggest hobby is projects — my own, my family's, my friends'. If something needs building, fixing, or figuring out, I'm usually in the middle of it.
Fencing, making hay, renovations — there's always something going. Half of it isn't even mine; if family or a friend is in the middle of a project, that's usually where I am. It's the same itch that makes me good at software: I like taking something half-working and making it run right.
Milking, breeding, and the daily rhythm that comes with livestock. Animals don't care about your schedule, which is a useful thing to be reminded of. It's also where "built to last" stopped being a slogan and started being a habit.
My wife and I get out whenever we can — new places, and rock whenever we can find it. Climbing is problem-solving with consequences: read the route, commit to the plan, adjust when it doesn't go the way you drew it up.
We spend as much time as we can around people who are building and growing things of their own. Some of the best ideas I've had started as a conversation with someone deep in their own project.
